Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?

This post will only be understood by people like me who spend time in front of the idiot box after work, watching Star Plus serials. I am a Star Plus sitcoms junkie, right from 'Saath Nibhaana Saathiya' to 'Maryaada.. Lekin Kab Tak?' -- I tend to watch them all. Since I'm so in-touch with what's happening in my reel friends' lives on screen, I have even signed up as a Star Plus panelist to give suggestions for their shows.

There are two specific characters - Arnav and Khushi - appearing in a new sitcom called 'Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?' who are irritating the hell out of me nowadays. The storyline is interesting, but it is only when they get into a good 5 minute 'staring at each other mode' that I feel like hurling my remote control at them. This post is specially dedicated to these two characters. You might find some pictures repeated, but this is only because Arnav and Khushi have the same expressions - even if they are happy, sad, angry or irritated. Please adjust!

LOL..This is too funny..I used to watch the serials a long time ago..around "Kyunki Saas bi kabhi bahu thi" days..Does that one still exist?

Hilarious this post! :D

I'll Try To Be Truthful - Ooh our own Indianized Vampire Diaries :D I used to watch that soap religiously too. Not interested anymore :( Especially that 'vampire maa' talks so funny when she's hungry :P

Soniya - Nope nope! That died a long time ago.. but its name is still very much fresh in our minds :D

DI - Thank you :)

Just the other day I was thinking that Arnav Singh Raizada (why can't I just say Arnav?) has NO expressions!!! Loser :P

Dhanya said...

Lol Ki :) The problem is I'm so sleepy around that time and when they get into these expressionless stares it just elevates my sleepiness even more! That's why I dread the "Rabba Mere" song -- which is what gets played in the background when these two get lost in each other's eyes :P

I am not into hindi soaps but this one has caught my eye and for the reasons you mention!

ROFL!!!!! Bang on for the expressions! Hilarious :D

One of those shows that could move into a better direction but just does not!
And let's not even get talking about the fishy brother in law !

Hahahaha, O God... I almost fell off my chair laughing my heart out, seeing ur pictorial representations :D
Superb imaginations, this post made my day :D
Though boys aren't expected (in fact most of my friends look down upon me for doing this :D) to follow the saas bahu & the romcom serials, but I religiously follow some of these :P & this is one of them. But more than the male-female leads, I only watch this serial for Daljeet Bhanot (the one who is playing the role of Anjali, Arnav's sis). I wish she wasn't married in real life too :P ... Every time she flashes her million euro smile, a thousand arrows dart into my heart, aar paar & just as u wrote, the 'Rabba Mere ...O Rabba Mere' title track starts playing in the background in my room :D

hahahaaa....really good post. I used to an ardent fan of these sitcoms that come in star plus, Zee and Sony TV....but for the past 1 year or so I have given up watching them coz at the end of the day they have the same story line and do the same trick of dragging it for at least 400-500 episodes!!

waddap Dhanno? Watching too much TV, eh? ;)

Dhanya said...

Demented Brilliances - Thanks for appreciating my madness :D What you see in this post is what goes on in my mind when I actually view these scenes on TV. I never voice them loud because ardent fans hardly appreciate such sarcasm :P I think the fishy bro-in-law adds excitement to the whole scenario. I just want Khushi to see him soon at the Raizada household.

Amit - If it made your day, then I'm happy :D That was the whole intent of this post -- to get someone or the other smiling a bit. Daljeet has one of the most beautiful smiles! Didn't know she was married. I love Ragini Khanna's smile the most though :) Lol @ Rabba mere playing in the background when you catch her smiling :D THAT in itself is a sign that you've fallen in love -- music playing in background like in sitcoms :P :P

Muhammed - I don't have much patience which is why I multitask when I watch serials. I'm usually doing my online work then and look up only when all the staring is over. Gives me good enough time to complete half of my work I tell you :D I remember Tara. Correct me if I'm wrong - but Navneet used to act in that?

Dhanya said...

Nidz - Thank you :)

Rashmi chechi - Very true. But I've never really watched Hindi sitcoms before which might explain why I'm so enthusiastic about watching them now :P Maybe later on, I will stop altogether..

moonlite - Thanks :)

Richa - Kya karein... In that weird phase now ;)

Yes, Dhanya :D the very first time I saw Daljeet, I was completely mesmerized :P
For me, it was almost the replica of the scene from DHOOM 1 (Uday Chopra sees Esha Deol at the sea beach, he looks up at the sky n says, "Thank U mummy", and then when Esha Deol doesn't even bother to give a look at Uday, he says, "Kya mummy, ek ladki dia, woh bhi esi nikli..cheyyy" :D :D
It was the same way for me too... As I saw Daljeet, I searched for her name in google, but unluckily found out that she is married :(' :(' "Kya Bhagwanji, ek ladki bheji itni der se (TV par hi sahi), woh bhi shaadisudaa nikli, cheyyy"

But yes, Ragini Khanna's is one of the most vivacious smiles on telly.

"Hai re Nandkishor" :D

Hi Dhanya, I am allergic to sitcoms though I cannot occasionally stop over to check out the hair and makeup. :) But I swear it was because of your post and how much I laughed at the fact that you had enough patience to cut and paste the same images n number of times to convey how long the staring is actually happening; that actually stopped and observed this sitcom while channel surfing yesterday night! I could not last even through one of the staring sessions. And he was not even staring at the girl. It was some meeting with some other guys. Ha ha... I wonder if these people have some mathematical formula that they apply to figure out how much time should be spent expressionless so that the number of episodes will multiply exponentially... :D

TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH YOU ARNAV CAN DO HIS EXPRESSIONS MUCH BETTER THAN AHEM IN SAATHIYA. OBV YOU MUST BE OLD WHICH IS WHY YOU LIKE THE TYPICAL UNIMAGINATIVE SAAS BUA STUFF

OMG.... it is really dragging on...
IF they really wanted to be on the top 5 shows list, then to keep the audience tuned, they need to keep the story line going at a good fast pace...

its really slow.. in one episode nothing really happens.. so the the best thing for all viewers is to watch on friday the last 10min of the show...
or end of every month...

the couple is great, i like the show.. but its dragging on and on and on....
getting boring now.. and i'm at the point of giving up..

Firstly, i find the Shame character very odd and there are many loose ends to the story which i believe can be build upon...

they need to have more meha episodes to get the viewers interested..

You didnt mention about your "comic writing skills" on linkedin. The world is getting even sad day by day & we need such no nonsense, expressionless, acutely blunt yet lucid, pictorial & light hearted entertainment at times. At least I dont want to die of heartache, stress levels & grey hair.
More of these ... Please !!

Haha...I just started watching this serial and I feel the same, your blog here is very funny and very true. They keep staring at each other for seconds and minutes and hours...gets irritating. Either do something or get out of there Grr....
