It's A Sad World. Sometimes.

Consider the scenario:
  • Gal1 & me chatting with each other.
  • Gal1's boyfriend comes online.
  • Boyfriend ignores Gal1 and starts chatting with me instead.
  • Gal1 keeps pinging boyfriend but boyfriend tells her he's busy with mails and checking FB notifications whereas there he is, happily chatting away 19 to the dozen with me.
  • Gal1 tells me rather sadly 'He's so busy. Doing FB quizzes and playing comp games. No time for chatting.'

When she said that, I just paused for a moment and looked at this guy's chat window. His girl was feeling hurt & lonely and what exactly was this guy doing? On top of that, he even started flirting a lil. I just felt so bad that I excused myself and went offline altogether.

Are all guys like this ?

Would you do this to your girlfriends ? Would you leave them alone when actually all they're asking for is a lil bit of your time ?

Should I or should I not lose belief in the purity of love? I have been through tough times but I haven't yet lost faith. Should I be losing it all by seeing such sad things?

I imagined myself in her situation, and trust me it didn't feel so good. Love is definitely over-rated. I guess we live in those times where we don't know who's actually being sincere and who isn't.

It's a sad world. Sometimes.

It's Raining Happiness!

It’s raining like mad in Kerala. So mad that it almost makes you feel that a boat would have been more efficient under such circumstances rather than having a car or a bike.

I was on my way to my ancestral house listening to my favorite songs and feeling happy go lucky. That feeling came to an abrupt halt when I started to hear something that wasn’t exactly coming from my MP3 player. Something of such a high frequency that I could hear it even when I had those tracks with high pulsating beats going on. Apparently, my loudspeaker of a mom was getting hyper over the flooded (and blocked) roads.

Mom : Horrible! How will we ever reach home ? Do you think we should head back?

Dad : *Silence*

Mom : Such a terrible weather. And look at this (pointing to the streets). If I knew the roads were going to be blocked, I wouldn’t have insisted on going.

Dad : *Silence*

Mom : Now we have to take another way. Are you sure we won’t get lost ?

Dad : *Yawns*

Mom : Oh! Maybe we should ask that man over there (pointing to a man who seemed a lil drunk). My god… why is he walking like that ?

Dad : *Silence*

Mom goes on and on and dad continues to act as if she doesn’t exist at all. It’s almost like the man has mastered the art of completely tuning off whenever mom gets hyper or angry. So much better than retaliating, trust me!

The usual 45 minute drive turned out to be 2 hours long. We reached home and mom heaved a sigh of relief. And… so did dad.

My best cousin was there (minus her husband, who had to depart to Chennai for work). Now, Pri without her hubby dearest is a lot more fun. Except for her 1 hour long chats with her husband in between our conversations, it was pretty much like spending time with the old Pri this time around. The sad part is in this cold, rainy weather you can’t expect me to stay awake for 1 hour not doing anything. Hence I doze off whenever she goes yak yak yakking with the love of her life.

It feels great to go to a place where you don’t need T.V, Internet or any sort of materialistic or selfish pleasures to keep yourself entertained. It feels great to be at a place where my craze for listening to the same song endlessly is met with affirmation by like minded people.

It feels great that I am able to enjoy the extreme simple pleasures that life has to offer... and somehow knowing that it will always remain this way.

At the moment, I just feel extremely blessed (I always do after those short trips to my ancestral house).

It’s a sin to be so happy. Come to think of it.... I don’t have anything much happening at the moment to make me feel so alive. But I still am!

Makes me wonder if I’m actually achieving Nirvana like how someone had predicted.

Touch wood!

Signing off with few lines from Baloo's song that's been on my mind the whole day -

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the tree
To make some honey just for me

Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
That's why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life

And don't spend your time lookin' around
For something you want that can't be found
When you find out you can live without it
And go along not thinkin' about it
I'll tell you something true

The bare necessities of life will come to you !

P.S : Wasn't keeping well. I have read all of your posts (including a special story by Pulkit dedicated to me where Dhanya happens to be the heroine and Shiva happens to be the hero. Where's my real life Shiva btw? :P ). But I couldn't comment much coz of my cranked up state. Will be back to irritate you people soon. =)

Chicken or Egg?

Since I am jobless, and I have ample time on my hands I decided to be useful for a change and find out the answer to the question that still seems to elude us all…

‘What came first - The chicken or the egg?’

But no, I could not do this alone (can anyone ??). I needed some help (but obviously!) and am very thankful to the few other jobless super intellectual people who helped me out with this research. If you feel you’re one of those highly intelligent beings who’s missing from my list of helpers, I beg for your forgiveness and ask you to contribute in the comments section instead. It wasn’t done on purpose and I did intend to ask you but maybe the timing wasn’t all that right.

Anyhow, the list of contributors (and probable future research assistants) are as follows :

Anu, Jean, Teena, Bini

People who are religiously following my blog would be aware of my missing a long-lost crazy friend – Anu. Well, guess what ? She was back the very next day I published that special 'annoying' post on my blog.... (which makes me wonder... hmmm!)

To tell you the truth, I’m actually regretting every moment of her comeback. Madam just can’t seem to stop abusing me and on top of that, sounds drunk most of the time which makes her an eligible candidate to answer my question:

Anu : k**** kutty!!!

Me : *sigh*… so what do u think ?
chicken or egg came first ?

Anu : obviously chicken
did adam come first or did adam's kid come first? :p
don ask stupid qns

Next contributor is Mr. J George. Super sophisticated J is also super intelligent and can answer almost any question with a highly thought provoking answer:

For example:

Me : i feel like singing... do u ?

jεnε : i wana burp actualy..
can we do it in sync?

The answer he gave to the ‘chicken or egg’ question was also equally thought provoking :

me : so temme did the chicken come first or the egg ? :)

jεnε : the goo.. came first

me : what ? the goo ???

jεnε : the one with the amino acid based chemicals
that comprised the primordial ooze

me : enufff

Now next few contributors aren’t as chatty as the previous two but I decided to ask them anyway...

Teena : it's obvious that the egg came first
we eat eggs for breakfast and chicken for dinner

: Ok you pichakaari!!! stop joking around
tell me what came first – chicken or egg ? idiot...

Teena : heyyyyy!
u are using way too much ‘fowl’ language okay ?!

Me : tell me! Chicken or egg ? egg or chicken ? huh ??

Bini : Chicken or Egg....
either one sounds really good right now!!
IM STARVING FOR GOD SAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Brilliant answers, no? I have to work with one of these people for my 'chicken and egg' research but have yet to figure out who’s the corniest brainiest of them all? Rest assured, my research is not yet complete.

Miles to go before I sleep…

Miles to go before I sleep…

Note to Anu : Told you there'll be another post abt you again :) Hope you liked this one. Did I skip any details ? :D

Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai!

One of my best friends is getting married today. Yes yes, yet another one bites the dust!

I have known Sumaiya (it feels so weird calling her by her full name) since my 11th grade. It’s not like we were best of friends back then. She used to sit right at the front, whereas I was happy at the back bench with my packet of hidden Oreo biscuits. She had her own group of friends whereas I had mine. She had her own interests and so did I.

It’s in the last two or three years that we became really close. We have spent endless hours at the mall, pigged out on a great deal of junk food, saw meaningless movies (such as ‘Twilight’… dunno when was the last time I giggled so much during a movie... sorry to all E. Cullen fans!!) and gossiped about anything and everything under the sun.

Sumi is a person who is sweet, intelligent, creative… and yes, very forgiving. I am really thankful to you, Sumi, for tolerating my superb dandiya dance skills and for hitting those fingers of yours with my dandiya stick umpteen times ;) Some memories stay etched in your mind forever…

Out of us three best of friends, Sumi is the one who acts her age. So she getting married first seems totally justified.

Happy Matrimony, my dear Sumo! Hope your wedded life will be just as you wanted it to be. May the romance never die and may Zameer never forget to spoil you with those unique presents and surprises!

Special note only to Sumo – There’s still time! DON’T GET MARRIED! Tell Zam to wait for one more year no??? Dhanno will be all alone now (since San is now busy doing oh-so-boring activities like cooking :P)…!!!!! Sumo, COME BACK TO MEEEEE!

P.S : All you guys who drop in, please please do leave a congratulatory note! Would really mean a lot to me. TIA :)

My List Of 4's

I have been tagged again! And to think Ramya thought I wouldn’t take it up. Actually she’s right. I am too busy nowadays doing facebook quizzes with life to take up these tags. But I will do it anyway…. coz it’s fun to do things that people assume you will not! :D

4 places i have lived

1. Kerala – Who am I to say anything about God’s own country? Lively place, lively people. It’s all good! I did my 3rd grade here (due to some problems in the gulf) and I’m so glad I spent an entire year of my schooling in Kerala for it's in that one year that I learnt how to read and write fluently in my mother tongue. This is something which I feel would have been impossible had I done my entire schooling in Bahrain. Later on, I did my engineering in Kerala and those 4 years only made me love this place even more.

2. Bahrain – My home away from home. The place where I got all the freedom I wanted. Studied in Indian School, Bahrain (ISB) till 12th grade and after engineering, went back to work for two years.

3. Sharjah – My sis stays there so we just pay those occasional visits.

4. Chennai – Some of my relatives are in Chennai, but it has been a long time since I visited.

4 TV shows I like the most

1. Mind Your Language – All about how an English teacher tries his level best to teach the Queen’s language to his foreign students. Students include a housewife from India who addresses Mr. Brown as ‘Masterjee’, a devoted Sikh who constantly picks up fights with his Pakistani classmate and on being corrected folds his hands and offers ‘a thousand apologies’, a Hungarian who doesn’t know a word of English and says ‘Bochanot?’ (Hungarian for sorry) every time Mr.Brown asks him a question, and one from Greece who adds an ‘H’ to almost every English word he utters(eg: Hokay for okay). Total timepass!

2. Friends – Chandler & Monica rock! End of topic.

3. The X-Files – Yes, I love this show inspite of the effect it has on me after watching each episode. :(

4. Everybody loves Raymond – And I do too! I love the interaction between Raymond and his brother. Cute but hilarious!

4 places on vacation

1. Singapore – Why do parents take you to such exotic locations when you’re too small and indifferent to remember even a single damn thing ?
2. Bangalore – Short trip. Commercial street. Shopping. Friends. Bliss!
3. Goa – Again with friends. Nice beaches and loadsa fun! :D
4. Ooty & Kodai – Whenever family mentions ‘vacation’, this is where we end up going.

4 of my fav food

1. Junk food (McDee's, Dairy Queen, Burger King, Pizza Hut.. I miss you all! :()
2. Mom's chicken curry (MmmmMMmmMMmm)
3. Bro in law's special prawns fry
4. Carrot halwa made by chech
5. Prawn pickle made by aunt (looks like I have an addiction to prawns here?)
6. Dal makhani
7. This Goan sweet called bebinca (love at first taste!)
8. Kaalan, aviyal, olan (all south Indian)
9. Chilly chicken, Sweet and sour chicken, garlic chicken (all Chinese)
10. Shawarma, falafel, baklava (all mid-eastern food)

Ok ok.. I got carried away... I will stop right here...

4 websites you visit daily

1. Google
2. Gmail
3. Facebook
4. Indiatimes

4 places I would rather be

Other than Kerala...

1. Australia - Looks like a nice place... (ignoring all the racism)
2. London – coz according to Anu, it’s a place meant for stuck up people and I believe I’m one ;)
3. Bahrain – No explanations needed.
4. Bangalore – Simply. For fun. :D

4 things I hope to do before I die

1. Learn the guitar – I have already found out a place nearby offering lessons, so fingers crossed.
2. Travel a lot
3. Go bungee jumping! (YES!)
4. Marry someone who is RICH (If a future prospect is seeing this, I am just kidding! But yeah, you do have enuff money to afford a net connection don't you ? I need to blog you see :D)

4 novels you wish you were reading for the first time

1. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert – Highly recommended for all girls.
2. Like a flowing river by Paulo Coelho – The short stories are SO inspirational.
3. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom – Gifted by my first boss! Love this book…
4. A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks – Boy meets girl, a romantic twist and a nice ending. *Sigh*

4 movies I can see over and over

1. Andaaz Apna Apna – ‘Yeh raat aur yeh doori’ video rocks!!!! The most hilarious Hindi movie I have ever seen….
2. Kal Ho Naa Ho – The first half of the movie, that is. Don’t like the super emotional second half.
3. Dil Hain Ke Maanta Nahin – Just coz it’s so cute.
4. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge – Everyone’s favorite is mine too!

I finished! I finished! Any more tags ? Huh ? Huh ? :D *Looks expectantly at you all*

How would you feel when people whom you have known for nearly all your life (18 years or more in my case to be exact) act as if they just don't care about how you feel anymore ?

I have taken extreme care in acknowledging the presence of people who matter, never once ignoring their messages or mails (even if they say shittiest of things sometimes) and being open-hearted about everything and anything concerning myself. Right now, this is the time I realize being nice is NOT so nice. If they don't care, why should I ? My sister follows the motto 'dont let someone be a priority in your life when u are an option in theirs'. But I being the ever-so-gullible, believed that people who you have known since childhood will never try hurting you in your wildest dreams. I always believed that outside my family, I can always trust THEM to act like family. I am so wrong.

When people whom you hold close, for whom you feel a lot towards, whom you considered as family start acting so sly - that's when it pains like CRAZY! Sadly, there's nothing I can do but just blog about it and release my anger.

Alden, as usual was online and at the right time to just calm me down. He has always been my mature friend, who actually listens even when I start talking rubbish and after suffering me for the last 8 to 9 years, he knows how to distract me from these feelings. Knowing that I'm an internet freak, he shifted towards the topic of blogging, mailing and how a particular 'google wave' would interest me. Being the tech geek, he patiently sat down & answered all my questions (even if he had run out of ciggies) while I forgot about how hurt I felt & just browsed through the videos and the pages regarding the same. I could only see one google wave highlights video coz of my crappy connection, but I'm hoping to catch the rest of it today!

Aldo baldo, you have always been there during my highs and lows, the good times and the ugly. You have seen my immature part, as well as the goodness in me. Friends have come and friends have gone, but you've stayed with me till now listening to every single rubbish I have to complain about. You simply rock and I hope you know that!

As for those people who don't care, I have done a bit of cleaning up in my Facebook and Orkut. None of my blogger friends are included (you guys have been just too sweet), so please don't misunderstand. I have disabled comments for this post coz this is my second post in a single day (fastest I have done since last few years I think)... and I don't want to burden anyone by commenting on something so depressing! You can catch up with the earlier & happier post of the day here.

Bonne nuit.

Dad Alert!

Flash news! Flash news!

My non-tech savvy dad has decided to join Orkut! Imagine my surprise when I got a friendship request from a certain Mr. K. Venugopal along with a personalized message -

‘Dhanya, I want to be your friend in Orkut. Is that okay?’

My pops asking my permission to be his friend. How cute is that ? :D

I am sounding amazed coz he was the last person I expected to be in social networking sites. I’m aware of other uncles & aunties joining but never expected MY dad to join. Orkut is turning out to be my family site with my sister, almost all cousins and now my dad joining. Like I said before, hum saat saat hain in everything & everywhere!

As of now, I am pop’s only friend. He’s trying things on his own daily… which is so amusing! I am planning to leave in a scrap every day, so that he gets that cute smile on his face every time he opens up his scrapbook….

P.S : I hope to God my mom doesn’t decide to join. As it is, she complains dad talks very less to her. All hell would break loose if he plans on ignoring her scraps too! :D

Thought For The Day – No Bail For Shiney ?

Shiney Ahuja is sick (I wonder why?) and the 'poor' guy is not even getting bail for raping (oh sorry, it was a case of 'consensual-gone-sour').

…. Please tell me why ?

A corrupt politician who goes by the name of Raj Thackeray gets bail for spreading hatred among communities (don’t even get me started on Thackeray.. the last time I blogged about him, I couldn’t stop typing).

A fellow actor who goes by the name of Salman Khan gets bail easily for running his car over innocent people (even after killing one).

Another not-so-famous actor, Puru Rajkumar, kills three pavement dwellers and gets away without even going to jail!

If this is the case, Shiney should have gotten bail by now. What’s happening ? Are the laws in our country finally changing ?

I’m totally confused about how the judicial system in our country works! Help!

Filling In The Blanks

Just when you run out of topics, help comes your way in the form of tags. I have to fill up some blanks this time around. I never used to like them when I was in school (does anybody?), but I don’t seem to mind these tags one bit. Aah! How people change…

  1. I've come to realize that my last kiss..... was just that – my last one.

  2. I am listening to... Jee Le – Luck.

  3. I talk... rubbish, most of the time.

  4. I love.. love! No seriously, I love to see people in love, and being in love too. Not that I am in love now (close friends & relatives, lower your eyebrows pleez!).

  5. My best friends..... are in Bahrain and Madikeri at the moment. (:* to you both)!

  6. My first real kiss... What? So unreal kisses exist too ? Pray, what are they ? Does the above kiss count ? :D

  7. Love is... feeling on top of this world when your partner’s around.

  8. Marriage is... something you should get into only if you’re totally in love with the person. That’s my view and I am trying to change coz it doesn't always work that way. No debating on this, please.

  9. Somewhere, someone is thinking... why such a sexy man like Abdul Kalam never got married ?

  10. I'll always... be there for youuuuu!

  11. The last time I really cried was because... I was supposed to get married this coming August and it didn’t work out. That incident has made me a stronger person and I haven’t cried since then. But but but…. that doesn’t mean I have turned into a zombie ok ? :P You won't find anything related to this matter in the archives of this blog, coz I have deleted those posts off.

  12. My cell phone ... is an N70 model which needs to be changed asap.

  13. When I wake up in the morning... I smile at myself when I brush my teeth (a toothpaste filled smile can brighten up anyone’s day!)

  14. Before I go to bed... I listen to music.

  15. Right now I am thinking about... why such a sexy man like Abdul Kalam never got married ?

  16. Babies are... yummy yummy yum yum :D

  17. I miss... Bahrain. (duh!)

  18. Today I... am in a sing-song mood.

  19. Tomorrow I will be... completing some of my pending work.

  20. I really want to be… Preity Zinta for a day. A beautiful, smart business woman who is also a successful artist with so many fans (especially Brett Lee) but who still seems modest, bubbly and lovable to the core. Three cheers to her!
